About

I am Brian McCammon and I started this blog to share the knowledge that I have gained in playing with computers and servers.  Playing with computers is my hobby and also my career.  I have been doing a lot in Linux lately and some of the thing were not a well documented as I would have liked them to be so when I figured it out I documented it.  Now I would like to share some of the documentation I have done.  If anyone has any questions or comments I would be happy to try to help or would like to hear what you have to say.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks, your FC write-up around openfiler was very helpful.

    From last page, http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-howto/31500-build-your-own-fibre-channel-san-for-less-than-1000-part-2

    An Acknowledgement:

In figuring out how to convert our NAS to a SAN, I’d be remiss in not thanking the sources used in solving a problem of configuring fibre channel, a problem that has no official documentation. First there is Snick’s thread in the Openfiler forums. The other source we used was Brian’s How To. Without their generosity I’d probably be bald, and launching expensive equipment through windows (the kind you see through walls with)

Thanks a lot for your step-by-step guide on setting up openfiler for use with Fibre Channel gear. I noticed the stuff had gotten dirt cheap for the PCI-X 2gbps cards and I decided to jump on board. Most of my stuff is still on the way, but I’ve already got the gears turning in my head.

My question: Have you looked into the possibility of doing channel bonding with the FC connections? Like you, I have bought QLA2342 cards and a silkworm 3200 switch. I actually stumbled onto your document after I realized that there was a possibility of having compatibility problems between some cards and the switches, so I googled ‘QLA3242 silkworm 3200’ and your site was the first hit. Anyway… being able to use bonding would allow me a mind-blowing 4gbps throughput between my ESXi hosts and my filer.

    Thanks again,
    Dan
